Masinde Muliro University, Key to growth of Kakamega County

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) based in Kakamega County has had tremendous impact on the growth of Kakamega town.

It is the driver of economic activity in the town. In terms of employment, it has directly employed over 500 locals in its construction activities where over Kshs. 40 M per annum is spent on wages.

Suppliers of construction materials are consuming over Kshs. 200 M per year. At one time MMUST was consuming more cement than the entire Western Province in it's infrastructural development.

MMUST has contributed to the demand for transport, banking services, residential accommodation, grocery supplies and other related businesses.

This in turn has created a serious sustainable chain of money movement that has created more employment and given a rise to an economy thought not possible..
